January/February 2008: From Selling Power Magazine

One of the strongest obstacles is that firms want to find candidates who are perfect fits, people who have been selling successfully in their space. This passive candidate is not found on the job-posting boards such as Monster, CareerBuilder or HotJobs. Passive candidates are not actively looking for a career move, and they will not move unless there is a perfect fit on their side.

Professional recruiters evaluate talent in an industry that is not yet on the market, researching the people who make a difference in the market, learning why they are happy or unhappy and what would make them accept a new opportunity. The best talent is found in a database, built up over years of referrals, of people who want to hear about the right opportunity but do not want that fact known. In theory, the hiring firm can build this database in-house, but few have the time because they need to concentrate on their own business. Click here to read the full article.
